    Notes

St Francis Hospital Buluba, commonly known as Buluba Hospital, has been a general hospital since 2003. Previously known as St Francis Leprosy Centre, it started as a leprosarium in the pre-dapsone era and has been involved in the changes in leprosy treatment and control approaches since then. It has a histopathology laboratory, a footwear workshop and a training centre which have been in existence since the 1950s.

In the archive are copies of most of the documents held in Dr Herman Joseph Ssekamatte Kawuma's personal collection, as well as the following:

    • Out-patients' record cards from the 1960s
    • Notes of in-patients from 1951 to date
    • Collections of biopsies in wax from various leprosy cases from 1958 to 1994
    • Colour slides and photographs depicting different clinical aspects of leprosy
    • Projects, financial records and correspondence associated with administration
