The leprosy archives of the National Archives of Côte d’Ivoire form part of series HH – Health and Assistance, the documents of which span 1 575 pages. These archives include documents on leprosaria at Bingerville - including records of the evacuation of leprosy patients to the leprosarium (1911-1915), correspondence regarding the situation of patients here (1912-1914), correspondence regarding complaints of people suffering from leprosy, and modifications to the leprosarium (1921), and a report on cases at the Ile Desirée (Bingerville) (1928); Port-Bouët – including documents on the construction of a leprosarium here and at Séguéla (1906-1915) and a report on Port-Bouët (1910); an island in Ebrié lagoon – the creation of a leprosarium there (1907-1914) and documents relating to its creation (1909-1915); Tabou – including correspondence relating to the building of this site (1924); and Grand-Bassam – correspondence about leprosaria (1924).
There is documentation relating to the Hygiene Committee for 1908 and 1909 and regulations pertinent to the control and segregation of leprosy in the colony (1909) and (1922-1929). There are records relating to the arrest, segregation and escape of those with the disease (1908-1914), (1914-1920).
There are also more general reports on sanitary and medical services in Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) (1911-1919), (1913-1917), and (1923-1925).
