The Philippine National Archives (PNA), Spanish Records Division has several record groups with materials relating to leprosy during the Spanish colonial era. The great majority of the archival materials with the PNA Spanish Records Division remain un-catalogued and un-indexed. The majority of the materials also date from the late nineteenth century, suggesting that official state interest in leprosy commenced at that time. The following are records groups with materials relevant to this history, with some selected documents:
- Beneficie y Sanidad
- Gobernador-General de Filipinas, Contaduria General de Hacienda, Lazarinos, 18 de Julio, 23 de Julio y 5 de Septiembre 1884. No government agency could assist them, and the five were referred to Church officials in the Marianas

The lazaretto appears to have not been in use, but the Spanish government did not officially change the name of the place, misleading many researchers today to believe that the lazaretto de Mariveles was a leprosarium. It was the quarantine station from 1886.
