    Notes

The Archivo de la Real Chancillería de Valladolid was founded in 1489 by the Spanish Catholic Kings. They not only reorganised the Tribunal of the Real Audience and the Chancillería de Valladolid, but also created this new archive for the Crown. However, until 1607, the first archivist was not named and the construction of a new building was ordered in which the documents that until then were held by the court clerk were placed.

Today, the Archivo de la Real Chancillería de Valladolid holds the documentation created by the Real Audience y Chancillería de Valladolid (1371-1834), for the legal jurisdiction of the Crown of Castille during the Ancien Régime for the territories situated in the north of the river Tajo, (with the Court of the Consejo de Castilla). It also holds the archives produced by the Audiencia Territorial de Valladolid (1834-1988), which replaced the Chancillería after its abolition, as well as the other legal organisations operating today.
