    Columbine

    わがなかの おだまき流す 紫の かなしみいつか 透明になる

    2000, Japan. More details
The color purple of columbine within me
The noble, passionate and wise color
    Will some day
    Make my sorrow transparent

The color purple, in the past when dyes were valuable, were considered a noble color since the ancient times. Emperor Juntoku of Kamakura Period was exiled on Sado Island after the Jokyu War. There is an anecdote that there he found a purple wild garland chrysanthemum and named it Gymnaster savatieri (“miyako wasure” or “forgetting the capital”).
Purple also is a color in relation to the crucifixion of Jesus who was ridiculed as the King of the Jews, made to wear a crown of thorns and purple robe and crucified on Calvary (Golgotha).
Color purple is also a mixture of blue and red denoting both wisdom and passion.
My sorrow will also one day become transparent and spirit of man will ultimately all return to a common place.
