    Notes

The Pondicherry Regional Centre of the National Archives of India contains administrative records of the French colonial government, most of which date from the 1860s through to the 1960s, and which likely include details of official anti-leprosy work. They are primarily in French, with some in English. Sources include official bulletins and journals released by the French government and minutes of the Colonial Council’s deliberations. There are also books relating to colonial history, health, medicine, and European missions in the area. A report by Dr Chatterjee on leprosy in Pondicherry and a thesis by R Natarajan on the social history of Pondicherry are also held.

A catalogue with more information on these files can be accessed here (PDF).
