The Andhra Pradesh State Archives and Research Institute holds both monarchic records for the Nizam of Hyderabad (pre-1948) and governmental records for the state of Andhra Pradesh. The records related to leprosy span from 1869 to 1991 (the majority dating from the 1930s-1970s), and are in English, Persian, and Urdu.

Many of the references to leprosy are found in gazetteers (Andhra Pradesh District Gazeteer, Hyderabad District Gazetteer, etc) which include statistics on leprosy and information on treatment centres. Official censuses, surveys, administration reports, and other documents also provide information on the incidence of leprosy in the population, the programs for its control and treatment, the appointment of health officials and the training of health professionals in leprosy control work, missionary activity, etc.

Many files relate to the establishment, funding, management, and maintenance of leprosy settlements, hospitals, and clinics, including those of Ashwaraopeta, Banigandlapadu, Bapatala (Bapatla), Bethesda Leprosy Hospital (Naraspur), Cuddapah, Gadanki, Hyderabad, Kalluru (Kallur), Kesarapalli, Krupapalle, Kuppala Gurappa Chatram, Madhira (Madira), Motamarri, Narayanpet, Nelakondapalle (Niala Kondapalle), Ongole, Pakala (Chikoor), Polukallu, Ramachandrapuram, Saidapet, Salur, Thirumalayapalem (Tirmalayapalem), Tirupathi, Veerisettipalle, Vellore, Victoria Leprosy Hospital (Dichpalli), Zaheerabad (Zahirabad), and others.
