20 October 1926 - Leprosarium São Roque was inaugurated. The institution is described as a 'hospital-colonia', and is located thirty kilometres from Curitiba. The State paid for its construction, and it was the second official leprosarium in Brazil. It had a capacity of 400 patients at the time that Souza Araujo was writing.
