This institution was a 'preventório' - a place for children of parents with leprosy. In this particular case, boys were housed until the age of eleven, girls until twenty-one. It was inaugurated 8 September 1927, and founded and maintained by the Associação Therezinha Menino Jesus. The capacity was 200 beds.

From 1928 the State of São Paulo subsidised this institution.
