Mal Ferha Estate was established in 1974 in an abandoned gun battery at Gharghur, Malta. It was used as a leprosarium to house the sufferers transferred from Ruzar Briffa Hospital. In 1989, there were only a few left there, apart from three active cases notified to the Medical Health Department. By 1955, there were only five remaining residents living at Hal Ferha Estate Leprosarium. The last remaining case was transferred to St Vincent de Paule Geriatric Hospital in 2001. This leprosarium was closed down in 2004.
