The archives of the Pacific Leprosy Foundation in the Macmillan Brown Library contain 617 entries including material associated with the administration of the foundation, correspondence with leprosy missions sponsored by the foundation, and reports on that work.

The administrative material includes the financial administration records. This includes cheque records, receipt books (1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1954, 1955), rental records (1945-46, 1951-53), cash and goods books (1930, 1934, 1941 and three with no date), bank deposits (1954-60); and balance sheets (1938-65). There are the nursing sisters accounts books (1947-51, 1954-65); and the wages and time book (1943-44). This lists dates and times of hours worked and wages received. It also includes a list of 144 photos and extracts of letters of Makogai workers and patients.
Records of investments are kept for the following years: 1964-68, 1967-70, 1967-71, 1968-71, 1969-70, 1969-75, 1971-73, 1973, 1974-78, 1979, 1980, 1981-82, 1984-85.
Donations and allocations records are held for 1944-48 (donation queries); 1944-1947 (donations by organisations); 1954-56 (donations and receipt requests); 1954-58 (allocation to Tahiti); 1959-75 (donations and press cuttings); and 1963-67 (correspondence associated with donations). There are also records for 1968-71, 1971-74, 1975-78, 1970-79, 1979, 1982-85, 1986; and in 1969 of the Wiggins donation.
As an example, the Makogai Leper Collection Record Books are organised in columns listing names, addresses, amounts, articles and goods contributed from around New Zealand. The 1937 book contains an envelope with newspaper cuttings (undated and from unknown newspapers). One photo has a caption, “From Makogai Island - Dr C J Austin, superintendent of the leper colony, and Father Peter Gonnet, SM, chaplain to the nursing sisters, who are visiting the Dominion. Another shows the “Investiture at Makogai – Gala Day for Leper Patients”. This cutting quotes from letters from patients at Makogai to Mr Twomey, the Honorary Collector for the Foundation. It describes the visit to Makogai of the Governor of Fiji to present the Reverend Mother with an MBE.
There is correspondence associated with policy and administration (1981-83, 1984) and with administration and accounts (1968-71). Tax returns are kept for 1975-84; depots and committee records are kept for 1944-53.
Advertising records are held for 1945-52, 1966-68, 1969-75, 1976-77; documents associated with publicising the work of the foundation are held for 1954 (press releases); 1964-67, 1968-73, 1969-79, 1970-73, 1972, 1973-78, 1973-74, 1974-75, 1978-79, 1979-80, 1981-83, 1985, 1980. Documents associated with insurance cover the years 1968-71, 1973, 1974; legal correspondence 1970-73; the Lions Club 1968-72, 1975-84 and the Rotary Club 1976-82, 1968-75. There are also letters and notebooks for 1955-63.
Correspondence records and minutes of meetings are available for the Makogai relief vessel committee 1952-54; 1954-57; 1965-71, 1967, 1972-74; the Trust Board 1950-60; 1952 (minutes and report for board meeting) 1954-59 (correspondence and documents); the Fiji Board 1966-73; and the Appeal Committee Minutes 1963-75. The Notebook contains the draft minutes for 1947, 1950, 1947-51, 1947, 1948, 1944, 1952 meetings.
Newsletters for 1943-46 are also a part of this collection.
The collection contains correspondence. The earliest of this is directed at P J Twomey, the Honorary Collector for the Foundation. For example, some correspondence for the years 1960-61 concerns New Caledonia, New Hebrides, and the North and South Solomons. This includes letters arranging the itinerary for visits to various Mission and Leprosy Colonies in the Pacific such as Suva, Vavau, Nukualofa, Nuie, Apia, Pago Pago, Makogai Leper Station, New Caledonia, Port Moresby, Lace, Rabault and Buka on Bougainville Island, North Solomons, Gizo (Methodist Leprosy Mission), and Kalombangara, the Dominican Mission’s New Hospital Dispensary on Choiseul.
