In the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura, there is a rare work entitled Cura da Morphéa by Antonio Aguiar, published in 1898 in Rio de Janeiro. It traces the history of leprosy, known as "morphéa" at the time. The author also relates in detail the cases of seven patients that he attended in the Hospital dos Lázaros in Rio de Janeiro.
