The Government Archives of the Province of Valencia hold the complete fonds and documentation corresponding to the government of the province of Valencia (Diputación Provincial de Valencia) since its creation in 1812 as an administrative and political district of Spain.

The documents are organised according to the following categories: Diputación de Valencia, Hospital General, Casa de Misericordia, Casa de Benficencia, Gobierno Civil, Junta Provincial de Beneficencia, Duquesa de Almodóvar, Ateneo Mercantil, Servicio Provincial de Inspección y Asesoramiento de las Corporaciones Locales and Canal de la Albufera.

Most of the documents belong to the Diputación category, which is divided into several sections:

This collection includes documents related to the transfer of leprosy patients to the Fontilles Asylum from 1907 until 1951; clinical reports of Valencian leprosy patients in Fontilles Asylum; documents, reports and laws related to agreements among the Valencia Diputación Provincial and the board of the Fontilles Leprosy Asylum (1927-29); administrative documents relating to transfer and admission of patients to Fontilles and Trillo Asylum (Guadalajara) (The Instituto Leprológico y leprosería Nacional in Trillo) or from one institution to the other; bacteriological, clinical, chemical reports, as well as reports on social assistance to the leprosy patients (1932); reports on protests by patients, including press clippings (1933); and budgetary matters with the province concerning subsidies for patients.

There are documents relating to the Decreto del Ministerio de la Gobernación (23 June, 1932) through which the state administration assumes the Fontilles asylum, named in the future as Leprosería Nacional de Fontilles. (The new republican legislation transformed the old system managed by the Jesuits into a public system depending on the State.)

There are also two registers:

Manuscript book. It reports the list of the patients assisted in the Fontilles Leprosy Asylum. Name register. (1945-1949) It contains a list of names of the patients, date of acceptance, dates of payment, place of origin and a column of observations. Organized in a yearly order.

Manuscript book. It reports the list of the patients assisted in the Fontilles Leprosy Asylum and also those of the Trillo Asylum. (Dates 1954-1966) It contains a list of names of the patients, date of acceptance, dates of payment, place of origin and a column of observations. Organized in a yearly order.

Finally, there is a published general report celebrating the Foundation of the Sanatorio de Fontilles para Leprosos [Fontilles Leprosy Asylum], called Sanatorio Nacional de San Francisco de Borja. This was published in Gandia the day of the Saint Francisco de Borja feast (10 th October, 1903), to whom the Sanatorio was devoted. It was published by an organising commission of the acts of commemoration, composed by: Juan Valier, Ramón Rovira Orlandis, Luis García Guijarro, Joaquín Ballester, Francisco Gómez, Conde de Pestagua, Carlos Corbí de Orellana, Fernando Núñez Robres, Carlos Ferris SJ.
