    Notes

This recently renovated library of the Medical Laboratory (Geneeskundig Laboratorium), where the Nobel prize winner Christiaan Eijkman was director between 1888 and 1896, holds books that Dutch and later Indonesian physicians were studying. It contains 10,000 books, most of them focusing on vitamin studies, physiology, chemistry and hygiene, but it also holds some books on leprosy: for example, articles on rat leprosy as research that was carried out in the first decades of the twentieth century. The laboratory was a centre for Dutch colonial medicine.
