    The university library of Utrecht possesses dissertations from early nineteenth century physicians and leprosy researchers in the Netherlands who carried out research in Suriname. It contains the doctoral thesis of Charles Drognat Landré, De besmettelijkheid van lepra arabum, bewezen door de geschiedenis dezer ziekte in Suriname, 1867, in which he proposes that lepra is contagious, Drognat Landré's, De la contagion, seule cause de la propagation de la lèpre (1869), A. van Hasselaar's Beschrijving der in de kolonie Suriname voorkomende Élephantiasis en Lepra (melaatschheid) (1835), Gottfried Wilhelm Schilling's De lepra commentationes (1778), Karel Diederik Schönfeld's Verhandeling over de lepra in't algemeen en de elephantiasis tuberculosa in't bijzonder (1857) among others.
