    Notes

Most of the documents in the National Archive of Surinam are from the colonial period, which only ended in 1975. The most important archive for leprosy research, the Ministry of Public Health, has not been opened up yet, as has the archive of the Ministry of the Homeguard, to which the Military Health Service belonged. The Archives of the Governor and Immigration can be accessed and the newspaper archive will soon be digitalised in cooperation with the KITLV, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Southeast Asean and Caribbean Studies. Reports for Groot-Chatillon, Bethesda and Majella and the numbers of leprosy patients in the leprosaria in the Colonial States [Koloniale Staten] and the Colonial Reports [Koloniale Verslagen] are held here.
