James Angus Doull, BA, MD, CM, DPH, DrPH (Nova Scotia, 1889-1963) was internationally known for his work in public health and as medical director of the Leonard Wood Memorial from 1948 to 1963. He had a distinguished career in the US Public Health Service where he served as chief of International Public Health Relations. He assisted in drawing up the plans for the WHO at the International Health Conference, and was a major figure in several international leprosy conferences. Served as a consultant on leprosy for the National Institutes of Health, was a Councillor of the International Leprosy Association and, for many years, was an associate editor of the International Journal of Leprosy. As a result of his work the first scientific method for determining the effectiveness of chemotherapy in leprosy was developed.
