    Esmond Ray Long, A B, M D, Ph D, Hon Sc D (1890-1979) was an eminent American pathologist, medical historian, and epidemiologist. He was Professor of Pathology and Head of the Henry Phipps Institute for the Study, Treatment, and Prevention of Tuberculosis at the University of Pennsylvania for 23 years. He was widely acclaimed for his extensive research, primarily on tuberculosis, and succeeded Dr Wade as editor of the International Journal of Leprosy from 1964 to 1968. He was executive secretary of the American Review of Tuberculosis from 1947 to 1952 and editor-in-chief from 1948 to 1952. He was a member of the Advisory Committee on Research for the Leonard Wood Memorial from 1932 to 1941 and a member of the Board of Trustees from 1969 to 1972.
