Tokiji Suzuki was a poet and an artist who was a resident at the Japanese National Sanatorium Kuryu Rakusen-en. With deteriorating eyesight, he painted memories of his lost sister and the hills and river of his homeland. He said, "I draw with my heart. To draw is to live. It’s a proof of my being a human being."
