1952 Ozama IslandC J Austin described his visit to Ozama Island in 1952. "Across by 'Mary' to Methodist Mission Station at Biloa on Vella Lavella. Sister Poole took me over to the leprosy island of Ozama by small canoe - 19 patients, all tuberculoid - 13 contacts living in separate section. Patients asked permission to visit their gardens across the air strip, forbidden by local headman - I agreed to ask the District Commissioner."
