    1998 First Central Government sponsored Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign (MLEC) was organised in the city of Mumbai with the objective of covering the entire population of the city within a short period. With the help of over 5 000 municipal health workers, about 105 lac population could be covered yielding 1 410 new leprosy cases in just one week.
