A list of leprosaria in Northern Rhodesia from 1961 reported that 100 patients were under treatment at the Liteta Settlement. Dr E James Currant, “Leprosy institutions in Northern Rhodesia”, International Journal of Leprosy, 29 (1961): 366-7.
This may be the same Liteta settlement that was later called the Invalid Compound.
The Invalid Compound has recently been improved and is in the process of being moved to a new site. In 2002, Kathleen Harding received an MBE for her work on improving conditions for the patients.
