Edgar Bernard Johnwick, BS, MD, MPH (1907-1965) was the medical officer in charge of the Public Health Service Hospital at Carville from 1956 to 1965. Under his leadership the hospital developed into a very active research center of training and research in the field of leprosy on a national scale. He developed annual training courses in cooperation with American Leprosy Missions and promoted the concept of rehabilitation in the treatment of leprosy patients.
