The Leprosy Station is situated on the coastal strip to the south-east of Nauru, at the boundary of Anibare and Menen districts. A senior Medical Orderly has his own quarters on the station; and there is a small Church where services are held by visiting clergy. It is hoped that as the general building scheme on the island progresses, under which Nauruan families are being provided with model houses costing about £1,000 each, buildings of a similar standard, but with any modifications found necessary, will be provided for these patients. Amenities in the form of fishing and sporting equipment, indoor games, cinema shows, literature etc are provided by the administration, and are evidently much appreciated by the patients. There is a striking absence of the deformities or asthenia that would probably be associated with long-standing disease, so that the patients can take full advantage of the close proximity of the sea for bathing, etc.
In addition to the former practice of intradermal injections of Moogrol, treatment by Sulphetrone injections has been introduced by Dr Ledowsky, the Administration Medical Officer, and beneficial results are already becoming obvious.'
