    1889 Dinsha Manekji Petit Asylum (Dinshah Manockji Petit Leprosy Hospital)On Feb 18, 1889, W J Moore Esq, Surgeon-General with the Government of Bombay, reported to the Secretary of the Government of Bombay that the asylum was "virtually a contagious disease hospital extramural, but worked in connection with the Civil Hospital".

    1890 Acworth Leprosy Hospital founded in Mumbai, India. It was originally called Homeless Leper Asylum, Matoonga. It was founded by Mr H A Acworth, then Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai. Fifty patients were initially sheltered.

    1890 A survey was conducted in 1890 in Malta to assess the size of the problem. Only 69 known cases of leprosy were identified, eight of which lived in Gozo. Only eleven cases were in an advanced stage of the disease and had admitted themselves to the Asylum for the Aged and Incurables, commonly known as the poor house. The greater number of cases in Malta came from rural areas, mainly Qormi and Mosta. Only one came from Valletta. Half the cases from Gozo were from Nadur.
